| Objectives / Innovative Aspects |
Objectives:
The main objectives are:
• The organisation of a discussion forum on city distribution transport with the distributors;
• Discussing implementation of specific measures to limit the nuisance of the city distribution of goods. show long version |
| The Measure |
A study in 2004 showed that a classic distribution centre in the city of Gent is not feasible. Therefore the problem has to be tackled implementing other measures. Firstly, discussion platforms will be organised. Secondly, these platforms should enable us to come to a feasible solution of the problem.

| Implementation Status |
Within the CIVITAS-ELAN-project and this work package the first step is to set up a forum where goods distribution can be discussed by the city council and the stakeholders (distributors, shop owners, etc.). Several subjects will be discussed with the distributors aiming at a practical task list on how to organise distribution in the city centre.
Another element in this measure is the control and enforcement of the existing dedicated parking spaces and the creation of extra dedicated parking spaces. A concept and design study will be carried out to decide on the location of these loading and unloading spots. show long version |
| (Expected) Results |
The tangible outputs are:
• A platform on freight management with distributors, end users, retailers, ...
• An extra number of dedicated parking spots for loading and unloading in the city centre.
The expected outcomes are:
• A structural platform discussing several measures and actions for sustainable good delivery in the city centre.
• The implementation of measures contributing to a decrease in traffic nuisance and distribution traffic (goal is 30%), an increase of safety in the city centre by separating distribution traffic from other forms of traffic.
