Plovdiv is a city of 380,000 inhabitants, located on the banks of the Maritsa River, and is the administrative centre of the province of Plovdiv in southern Bulgaria. It is the second largest city in Bulgaria, 152 km southeast of the Bulgarian capital Sofia and is well known as an important economic, transport, cultural and educational centre.
