Zadar (Croatia)

City of Zadar is a local self-government unit situated on the Adriatic coast with 75,062 inhabitants, determined by the Local self-government and Administration Act and Territories of Counties, Cities and Municipalities in the Republic of Croatia Act. It has 181 employees and 14 administrative departments.

The City of Zadar is active participant in the field of transnational and cross-border cooperation with a long tradition of cooperation with numerous foreign local governments and international organizations.

The mission of City of Zadar is a responsible and efficient management of public affairs as well as transparent work of the city government in accordance with interests and needs of its citizens.  Furthermore, City of Zadar focuses on ensuring conditions for continuous economic and social growth of the city by promoting good management, entrepreneurship, competitiveness and innovations. City of Zadar is the founder, owner and co-owner of a number of cultural and educational institutions, companies and utility services established for effective carrying out the work and the activities the local-self government is competent for.

City of Zadar is developing the following strategic documents and activities:

The Master Plan for Sustainable Mobility of the Zadar Region

The purpose of the plan is to ensure sustainable transport development in the region in accordance with European national strategies and plans. the plan will specifically highlight support to public transport and alternative ways of transport, especially walking and cycling.

The Traffic Study of the City of Zadar

The existing traffic study, which is made in 2003, is being revision and a new traffic study will be based on the solutions of intelligent transport system.

The Strategy of Intelligent Transport System (ITS)

Based on the results of the Traffic Study, the Strategy defines the strategic transport network and the technology that should be applied to the network in order to achieve the expected results of improves transport system.

The Program of Energy Efficiency in City Traffic

This program resulted from SEAP (Sustainable energy action plan) and its goal is to ensure the sustainability of urban transport applying energy efficiency measures. It includes the implementation of “car sharing” and “bike sharing” models and intorduction aof advanced control of crossing intellgent trafic lights.

The implementation of the pilot project “Public city bikes”

In order to promote 'green' public transport among its citizens, 25 bicycles for public use will be placed at 4 locations during the 6 months.

Marking the European Mobility Week

In order to raise awareness of its citizens for increasing the environment protection and life quality and in order to promote initiatives and best practices related to sustainable urban movement, City of Zadar has been included for three times in marking of European Mobility Week, manifestation that has been held every year in  september.

Pro e-Bike

Withing this project, cofunded by Intelligent Energy Europe Programme, City of Zadar has developed the Action Plan for promotion electric bicycles and scooters for goods delivery and passenger transport, has marked 2 infor days and has also got an electic scooter and electic bicycle for th eneeds of the city administration and one electric bicylcle for the needs of home for adults.

CitiZEN(Sustainable Mobility for Citizens in Europe)

City of Zadar is a partner within this project in the frame of  Program: Europe for Citizens. The purpose of the project is to create a permanent thematic working group focused on sustainable mobility in the framework of the Association of 'Energy Cities'.

Especially interest of the City of Zadar is involving in projects related to improving bicycle infrastructure and increasing the use of bicycles, increasing the use of alternative energy sources in transport (gas, solar energy etc.),  improving the infrastructure for renewable energy sources (electric and solar filling stations) and ensuring the sustainable mobility development in general.
