Lipsi is one of the smaller islands found at the northern end of the Dodecanese chain, which runs up the west coast of Turkey. It lies between the larger islands of Kalymnos and Samos and benefits greatly from a very large and deep natural harbour and also from being on a main ferry route.

Visitors to the island can dismiss the outdated image of Lipsi being 'donkey-powered'.  Scooters and cars are now used extensively on the island thanks to transport infrastructure improvements carried out with the help of  EU funding.  

The large harbour has also undergone major reconstruction to accommodate the many visiting yachts in summer; Lipsi is a regular stopover on many Greek boating holiday routes. The island itself is very small - visitors can comfortably walk to most of its beaches and the island is crisscrossed with a network of roads and trails.
