Weiz (Austria)

The city of Weiz is home to many of the major companies and businesses in the region and has about 8000 commuters each day. Accordingly, one of the biggest challenges for the city of Weiz is individual motorized commuter traffic at business day rush hour. Especially at the beginning and end of the workday and at times of shift changeover. In order to reduce motorized traffic, Weiz already takes various measures to promote sustainable mobility options, like offering a bike and e-bike rental system citywide and even beyond city limits.

Additionally, Weiz implemented an e-car-sharing system in 2020, which allows low-threshold access to sustainable car alternatives. However, the main goal for the next five years will be the implementation of a sustainable cycling strategy that will provide infrastructure in order to link Weiz and its neighbouring municipalities via bicycle paths. This should allow more people to comfortably switch from car to bike.
