Bacau (Romania)

The Municipality of Bacau is currently facing a number of barriers that make it challenging to integrate a more sustainable approach into its mobility system. Such challenges include poor connectivity of the road network caused by the existence of anthropic and natural barriers and a lack of lanes dedicated to public transport, which impacts its punctuality. Collectively, these challenges and others lead to a high degree of motorization (400 cars per 1000 inhabitants).

To overcome these challenges, Bacau Municipality aims to improve the efficiency of transport services and infrastructure by reducing the need for motorized transport, and decreasing the environmental impact and energy usage of all mobility services. Accessibility of all transport services is also a key priority, meaning having good connections within the metropolitan/peripheral area, but also universal access for those with physical disabilities or limitations.
