Bristol (United Kingdom)

With a rich cultural heritage, prosperous economy, and world-class universities, Bristol is consistently ranked as one of the best places to live in the UK. However, as with other cities, we face rising inequality and some of the most deprived areas in the country are located here. For Bristol to be an attractive place to work, live, and visit for everyone, it needs a transport network that supports the local economy, enhances the urban environment, and contributes to high-quality, people-friendly places.

Housing and economic growth are challenges the city is facing because over 100,000 new homes and new jobs will be needed across the region by 2036. Specially in these new areas that will emerge and also in the existing ones, equality is a value we want to implement. Bristol has some of the most deprived areas in the country, with a difference of 16 years in healthy life expectancy between the most and least deprived areas of the city. The sustainable growth of the city is key for us, supporting economic growth and accommodating emerging technologies while cutting carbon emissions.

We also need to tackle poor-quality public space by creating high-quality places and making better use of our streets. Our goals are to promote physical activity and secure reliable journeys. Bristol has some of the worst congestion in the country, causing unreliable journeys for many people. In this sense, we feel the need of putting people's health as one of our priorities.
