Summary

"Bike Benefit" is a tool to motivate people to travel by bicycle and also to further motivate those, who already travel by bicycle to continue doing so for their daily transportation. At the same time it supports urban retailers and service providers.

The Bike Citizens App serves as the technical foundation for this tool. Registered users who cycle with the app can accumulate so-called Finneros, a fictitious currency, which they can spend at local stores of cooperation partners. In addition, cyclists get awarded for special performances or a great deal of commitment. Weather, time of day or kilometres cycled are taken into account for these achievements.

Benefit providers can offer anything from discounts, goodies, give-aways, charity donations to event tickets and even non-monetary perks such as "the city's invitation for a meet and greet at the mayor's office".

The Bike Benefit programme has many advantages for both, cyclists as well as companies who offer the benefits. Cyclists can discover new companies in their town, take advantage of new products and be rewarded for cycling. Companies in turn also benefit from the Bike Benefit programme by winning new customers, activating existing customers and increasing their brand awareness and image.

Good Example

Users are motivated to track their trips more often. With the aid of the Bike Benefit System, in Berlin, the weekly uploaded tracks in the app rose by 260% in April 2017.
