212 cycling troikas save15 tonnes of carbon dioxide

CIVITAS Initiative

In May 2011, a group of climate change activists, together with Road Safety Agency of Slovenia, Ministry of Transport and Urban Planning Institute, which is a partner of CIVITAS ELAN, organised a competition entitled Troikas cycling (to work).

Its aim was to encourage employees to use bicycles instead of cars to come to work and to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Some of CIVITAS ELAN partners joined the competition and helped to contribute to these goals. 212 troikas were cycled almost 100.000 kilometres and “saved” around 15 tonnes of CO2. Six participants were randomly selected by lottery draw and received a folding bike BigFish, a few other lucky winners were awarded with helmets, bicycle racks and other equipment for safer cycling.
