Awareness-raising workshop on sustainable urban mobility plans
A workshop on on Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans was held on 8 March, 2012 in Zagreb. The awareness-raising workshop was targeted at decision-makers and other stakeholders in Croatia.
More than 40 participants had the possibility to hear about Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs), as a way of tackling transport-related problems in urban areas more efficiently. The basic characteristics of a SUMP are: A participatory approach; A pledge for sustainability; An integrated approach; A clear vision, objectives and measurable targets; and A review of transport costs and benefits. V. Jelić Mück from ODRAZ moderated the workshop during which experts from Graz, Edinburgh and Ljubljana explained the difference between the usual way of planning and sustainable urban mobility planning. Good European examples were shown including two from Croatia (Zagreb and Koprivnica). L. Pavić-Rogošić from ODRAZ presented CIVITAS ELAN and explained how this project is leading towards sustainable urban mobility planning. During a panel discussion, participants had a chance to pose questions related to urban mobility and give their suggestions and comments. The workshop was coorganised by the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences and ODRAZ - Sustainable Community Development.
