During the week of 15 April, HAMK Häme University of Applied Sciences (FI), University North (HR) and University of Zagreb (HR) visited Breda University of Applied Sciences (NL) to facilitate and discuss cooperation. All three institutes are active members of CIVITAS Educational Network.

The visits of the two Croatian universities comprised meetings with BUas' internationalisation team to discuss potential educational cooperation, such as lectures and student exchanges. These were followed by meetings with DTV, also based in Breda, to discuss the involvement of the universities and their students in the upcoming CIVITAS Summer Course 2024, which will take place on 2-5 Sept 2024 in Zagreb. It was agreed that experts from University North and University of Zagreb will participate in the Summer Course programme as speakers on various topics related to the three key challenges that the course will cover. Following the meeting with DTV, visit participants went on a campus tour to get an impression of the research, educational and other facilities that BUas has to offer.

Potential cooperation formats between BUas, University North (Department of Logistics and Sustainable Mobility) and University of Zagreb (Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences) will further be explored in the coming months. In September 2024, the universities will come together again during the International Conference on Sustainable Transport (SuTra24), which will take place in Croatia and will feature a dedicated session on CIVITAS Educational Network.

We were very impressed with what you do in the logistics and built environment departments, and also in the games department. We would like to achieve deeper cooperation with BUas because we have so much in common, not just in relation to teaching and researching.

- Assoc. Prof. Predrag Brlek, Head of Logistics and Mobility Section at University North (HR)

In addition to the visit by the two Croatian universities, BUas also hosted lecturers and students from HAMK Häme University of Applied Sciences (Department of Traffic and Transport Management). The goal of this visit was to explore Dutch mobility solutions and to attend Intertraffic Amsterdam. BUas lecturers organised two cycling tours for the Finnish visitors, one in Breda and one in Houten, where students had an opportunity to experience the Dutch way of cycling and study the design of cycling and bicycle parking facilities. Students from HAMK also joined one of the courses of the Bachelor's programme on Built Environment, where they worked in mixed teams with BUas students on an assignment aimed at exploring the differences and similarities between Finnish and Dutch transport and traffic conditions.

We had an amazing experience and it was so great to get to know the biking culture of the Netherlands! Inspired by that, I've now been cycling around 20km a day. The conditions are totally different, but it feels good anyway!

- Aleksi Vähämäki, Traffic and Transport Management student at HAMK Häme University of Applied Sciences (FI)

Any educational institute that is interested in a similar kind of cooperation with other educational institutes that are active in mobility are invited to join the CIVITAS Educational Network. To do so, please complete the entry survey
