Belgium’s CIVITAS National Netwerk, CIVINET .BE, has officially launched! This newest member of the CIVINET family already includes over 30 cities and towns across Belgium. It was presented to the broader European mobility community at the Urban Mobility Days 2023 in Seville (Spain). This new learning network brings together municipalities from all three Belgian regions and supports them to get the most out of European mobility projects, programmes and initiatives.

The CIVINET .BE secretariat is managed by Mobiel 21, who presented the network to interested municipalities for the first time back on 19 September. Nearly 20 Brussels, Flemish and Walloon municipalities participated and reflected on the organisation, operation and future activities to be taken on by CIVINET .BE. Behind the scenes, additional municipalities expressed their interest in being part of the CIVINET.

To ensure the broader European mobility community is aware of the new network, CIVINET .BE also organised an informal meet-up during the Urban Mobility Days 2023. Here, the network engaged with other CIVINETs, Belgian local authorities, European mobility organisations and professionals, as well as representatives from DG MOVE and CINEA to explore collaboration opportunities.

Mobiel 21 is now processing all valuable input received, in order to soon roll-out exciting CIVINET activities and events in Belgium and beyond. Naturally, substantive collaboration with other CIVINETs and European partners will be an integral part of CIVINET .BE’s approach.
