CIVITAS CATALIST Workshop in Graz: Street Design: Reorganisation and Public Participation
As a result of the increase in interest in urban mobility policies and implementing concrete measures, the City of Graz organised a workshop to transfer know-how and enhance mutual learning on the subject.
Citizens of the European Union are increasingly aware that citizen involvement and co-decision making is enabled by European Union policies and legislation. These legislative provisions, however, are implemented very differently in different Member States – from deliberative to centralised and closed approaches. Good practice is increasingly employed in cities and states of the European Union - public participation incorporates needs, values, interests and the knowledge of participants into decision-making processes, which improves the quality of the decisions. The workshop shared best-practices and provided 40 participants, coming from 12 cities in seven countries, with the necessary theory and real-life examples to bridge knowledge gaps and enhance relevant skills. The City of Graz and FGM-AMOR, both CIVITAS CATALIST partners, organised this workshop, which took place on 26 April 2012, to support cities interested in sustainable transport solutions with a focus on shared space and public participation. The workshop was followed by a study visit to Austria’s first Shared Space, realised in Graz with practical tools and solutions.Speakers came from political and expert level, outlining experiences in London, Frankfurt, and Koprivnica, as well from the CIVITAS CATALIST partner Graz and the CIVITAS ELAN cities. In an open discussion, moderated by Mr Mario GUALDI (ISIS, Rome and co-ordinator of CIVITAS CATALIST), the opportunity to ask questions not directly linked to the presentations, was given.DownloadsFinal Programme (Download)List of participants (Download)Opening Remarks (Download) Ms Lisa RÜCKER, Vice Mayor of the City of Graz, AustriaKeynote Speech: Street Design for citizens (Download) Mr Victor CALLISTER, City of London, United KingdomPublic Participation in CIVITAS ELAN cities (Download) Ms Milena MAREGA, REC SloveniaPublic Participation in Frankfurt (Download) Dr Johannes THEISSEN, Mobility Consultant, GermanyPublic Participation in a CIVITAS follower city (Download) Ms Helena Hećimović, City of Koprivnica, CroatiaPublic Participation in Graz (Download) Mr Wolf-Timo KOEHLER, City of Graz, AustriaCity development project Annenviertel (Download) Mr Bertram WERLE, City of Graz, AustriaShared Space Graz: Sonnenfelsplatz (Download) Ms Heike FALK, City of Graz, AustriaFor more information please contactGerhard ABLASSER, City of Graz (Email) Fred DOTTER, Austrian Mobility Research, FGM-AMOR (Email)
