EEV buses in La Rochelle: working towards a clean fleet
Through CIVITAS-SUCCESS, La Rochelle has made a further step towards cleaner public transport by implementing 10 new buses complying with the EEV (Enhanced Environmentally friendly Vehicles) standard.
As early as 2007, the Urban Community of La Rochelle had considered the purchase of these buses, combining the use of Ad Blue (Aqueous Urea Solution 32.5%) with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR). Starting in June 2008, 10 buses are running on the bus operator network. In parallel, a filling station supplying urea solution is being installed at the bus operator’s depot.The EEV standard, applicable to heavy duty vehicles, is today’s most stringent emission standard for bus and coach engines. Zoom on the current European Emissions Requirements The European regulations for heavy-duty engines in Directive 1999/96/EC are commonly referred to as EURO I to V. The EURO V limits will be required from 1 October 2008 for new types of vehicle and from 1 October 2009 for all new vehicles. A new Directive 2005/55/EC provides updated measures to be taken against the emission of gaseous pollutants from diesel and gas engines. It also defines an “Enhanced Environmentally Friendly Vehicle” standard (EEV) applicable to heavy duty vehicles.
