Ghent route planner updated

CIVITAS Initiative

The Ghent bicycle route planner, which was launched in September 2010, has been updated to make it more user friendly. Thanks to the remarks and suggestions of users, some features have been improved, and some new features have been added.

There are several new features, it's now easier to locate your starting position and to define your end destination. Your personal route can easily be exported to a GPS-system via a standard gpx-format. The route planner is now also available in other languages like French, English and German, which is interesting for tourists or foreign students. The whole interface is refreshed and has become more user friendly than before. The routeplanner will be integrated in the overall bicycle website from 20 May onwards. The advantages are that cyclists can determine their personal route and include a number of personal interests. For example there is the possibility to avoid tram tracks, cobblestones or hills. The route planner calculates the most recommended route from point A to point B, but you can choose to avoid busy roads The routes are based on the existing functional Ghent cycle network, but you can easily switch to the recreational bicycle network of the Province. Also the bicycle services can easily be found on the map, from public bicycle pumps, repair services and bike shops.
