Kędzierzyn-Koźle, Poland becomes 194th member of the CIVITAS network
The southern Polish city of Kędzierzyn-Koźle has joined the CIVITAS network, with plans to introduce electric buses and create a sustainable urban transport strategy among other transport priorities. The city of 64,000 has pursued a number of sustainable transport measures in recent years and hopes to take further steps in partnership with cities of the CIVITAS network.
“One of the reasons the city joined the CIVITAS Initiative is to introduce a fresh approach to public transport problems,” explained Dariusz Kantor, European Projects Coordinator at the Municipal Office of Kędzierzyn-Koźle.The city’s public transport company currently operates 53 buses, most of which comply with Euro 5 and EEV (enhanced environmentally friendly vehicle) standards. With substantial financial support from the EU, 16 new buses have already been purchased since 2010. Kędzierzyn-Koźle is situated at the heart of Central Europe, within easy reach of six European capitals: Warsaw, Berlin, Bratislava, Budapest, Prague and Vienna. The city has an important port on the river Odra as well as excellent rail connections that will soon be included in the European Rail Traffic Management System.For further information about joining the CIVITAS Initiative, please click here.
