Results now in for 2010: Cycling numbers up in Bologna

CIVITAS Initiative

The Municipality of Bologna’s 2010 annual monitoring report showed an 11% increase in the number of cyclists, compared to the previous year. Building on the 27% increase in 2009 compared to 2008, this study re-affirms the increasing trend in the number of people using bicycles in the city largely due to CIVITAS MIMOSA’s policy and technical measure as well as the pro-cycling awareness campaigns that began in 2008.

The survey, held between September and October 2010, and organised by the University of Bologna, was carried out using automatic measuring devices, microwave sensing devices and pneumatic piping devices, between September and October 2010. For each measuring station (20 in total, placed close to the most important areas along the city cycle routes) the bike flow was monitored for a week without interruption. To view the report click here.
