Sustainable goods distribution gains ground in Vitoria Gasteiz

CIVITAS Initiative

An agreement between the Basque Energy Board (EVE) and a major supermarket chain has initiated the testing period of the new Mercedes Vito E-Cell for home delivery services. This partnership includes the evaluation and monitoring of electric vehicles, as well as the installation of charging points for clients.

The main aim is to test the new 100% electric delivery van (produced by Mercedes-Benz plant in Vitoria-Gasteiz) and track the use of these vehicles. Data will be gathered every three months and transmitted to EVE, in order to evaluate the vehicles on home-delivery tasks. This measure reinforces the electric tricycles delivery initiative, especially in the central superblock. At the same time the city, within the CIVITAS MODERN Consortium, is studying and designing a new urban goods distribution scheme, according to its commitment to reduce traffic and recover public space for citizens.
