The Urban Air Mobility Initiative Cities Community (UIC2)participated in theAmsterdam Drone Week 2024 (ADW24), engaging in different panels and discussions, with several city representatives participating as speakers. These sessions highlighted diverse aspects of Urban Air Mobility (UAM):

  • Sustainable development perspectives on urban air mobility – UIC2 panel (April 16th);
  • Insights from Hamburg: Strategy building for urban air mobility (April 16th);
  • Urban vision for air mobility: the role of innovative aerial services (IAS) in shaping future cityscapes - strategies and progress (April 17th);
  • UIC2 Germany: achievements & lessons learnt (April 18th).

On April 17th, the UIC2 held its annual workshop as a side event to the ADW24. In this occasion, the UIC2 members presented the achievement and next steps of the UIC2 Task Forces on Regulation, Societal Embracement and Integrated Mobility Planning. Moreover, the UIC2 discussed the organisation of five thematic workshops throughout the next year. The aim of these workshops is to address critical elements necessary for the successful integration and expansion of UAM within urban environments. The UIC2 members outlined a set of topics which could possibly be at scope of these five workshops, including:

  • Regulations for drones and eVTOLs;
  • Social acceptance and citizen engagement for UAM deployment;
  • Urban planning for UAM, including Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs);
  • Deployment of U-space and UAM services, alongside operation authorizations;
  • Funding strategies for UAM deployment;
  • Upskilling and reskilling of public officials for UAM operations;
  • Role and responsibilities of cities in UAM deployment;
  • Practical UAM use cases (e.g., emergency medical services);
  • CO2 life cycle analysis of drones.
