Visit of a representative of the University of Nagoya (Japan) in Burgos

CIVITAS Initiative

Professor Toshiyuki Yamamoto from the University of Nagoya visited Burgos to see all the measures in the field of sustainable urban mobility implemented and planned within CIVITAS CARAVEL. Burgos was selected after a detailed study in which a number of possible cities were chosen to focus on and to visit “in situ”.

Professor Toshiyuki Yamamoto travelled from the University of Nagoya to Burgos after a detailed study of numerous European cities to see which offered the best solutions for implementation in Japan. In Burgos he was especially interested in the numerous activities undertaken in the framework of CiViTAS CARAVEL to consult stakeholders on proposals and to share decisions with the public: the numerous meetings and events organized for the public and with stakeholders in the city, the open forum on the web page, the competition of ideas organised with the free postcards and also marketing activities, the project video, the promotional gifts…At another level, some of the activities undertaken by CiViTAS CARAVEL turned out to be of great interest for replication in Japan, such as the bike loan scheme and the restricted-access system in the historic centre. The visitor was surprised that local technology and machinery from Burgos were used in the bike loan system. The visit of Prof. Yamamoto lasted a few days and found a big echo in the local press.
